A new study reported that drinking wine or beer every day increases the risk of bowel cancer. The British Daily Telegraph reported 35,000 people are diagnosed each year with bowel cancer and that it kills 16,100 a year.

A senior Sudanese official said floods and heavy rains have caused 23,000 mudbrick homes to collapse and killed at least 62 people across Sudan this month. In southern Darfur Mahria Arab tribesmen attacked Terjem Arabs killing over 60 Terjem. Conflict between Arab tribes was on the increase and included clashes between the Habanniya and Salamat tribes.

An Indian anti-terror court sentenced Bollywood film star Sanjay Dutt to six years in jail for illegal weapons possession in connection with serial bombings in Mumbai in 1993. Dutt was freed on bail after 22 days in jail.
