In England a twin-engine Bombardier Challenger plane crashed at Birmingham International Airport. Pilots Thomas Boydston (51) Robert Norton (58) and Timothy Vandevort (41) were killed along with John Shumejda (56) the president and chief executive of agricultural giant AGCO, and Ed Swingle (60), the company's senior VP for sales and marketing. A 2004 report said that the crash was caused by the crew's failure to de-ice the wings before takeoff.
