In western Iraq a suicide bombing killed six people near Fallujah. The attacker (18) was a relative carrying a box of candy at a gathering of tribal members to celebrate the recent release of a relative, Hadi Hussein, who had been released after more than a week in US custody. Hussein and five other people were killed in the blast.

In Kenya renewed ethnic fighting broke out in a Nairobi slum following the deaths of more than 20 people in demonstrations against the disputed re-election of President Mwai Kibaki. Several people were beaten and hacked to death with machetes.
