Lord Charles Forte (b.1908), Italian-born British businessman, died. He had parlayed a London soda shop in 1934 into one of the world’s largest hospitality businesses. He was knighted in 1970 and in 1982 PM Margaret Thatcher made him Baron of Ripley. He authored an autobiography in 1986.
